Advent at the Chronomancer's Guild

After clearing Westeria, Doldin and Dreirael immediately claim this place, inhabited only by the dead bodies, as their own. While searching for any items or information on the Necromancer’s body, they find quite a few magic items, including a black orb, roughly the size of a human head. The orb mad eof finely polished Obsidian contains a faint image of a black dragon’s head inside of it. Unsure what this is, the party stowes it away to research later. However, after deciding this place was now theirs, the party is left needing to find their way home. With new information about Chronomancy, namely that another civilization had it once, and that it was lost, Thomas immediately wishes to get there to give over the book, however Dreirael wishes to speak to the Elven Council, and states that if he goes to the Chronomancer it will be to kill them, due to what they have done to the party in the past. Most important to Dreirael, they now have a name to put to the red and black face, the Dancing Devil.

While Doldin stays at the in-progress Stronghold in Cassica, Dreirael takes the book that the gnomes gave them, wary of changing events of the past, and he, thomas and the new woman, Sue, travel to the Elven Citadel at Dysidun. Word of Dahliana’s death had reached the Elves and ere was much to discuss.

Dreirael steps in and immediately throws the gnomish book down onto the huge center table of the citadel and begins giving his report on everything that had happened from the moment they left the citadel to this point. After listening what the party now knows, the Elves will scry the aether again, trying to find any knowledge of the necromancer and the dancing devil. Here they will reveal that more than a thousand years prior, the realm of Tiamat was, indeed, overtaken. A party of creatures entered the Hells, then 13, now 9. It consisted of two human males, an elven male, and a dwarven female. The ones who were pivotal in the fall of Tiamat were one of the humans and the elf, Clopin Trouillefou and Trellyr Grayborn, respectively. They entered the realm and were very quickly overtaken by the evils and riches offered, their greed corrupted them and drove them nearer and nearer to the demonic energies until finally those energies consumed them, altered them. Without hesitation they offered their allegiance to Griz’zt. Using their newfound powers the two quickly tore through the realm of Avernus, ending the Blood War by amassing countless bodies on both sides, indiscriminate of who they killed, as chaos was where they thrived. Soon after, they betrayed the allegiance, never having planned to honor it in the first place, and attempted to overthrow Griz’zt himself. They initially failed, having faced only an avatar. However where one failure stood, a great victory was won, Clopin, well practiced in the arts of music and dance, and sly with his tongue, convinced the Drow Goddess, Lolth, to court him. This goddess served a grand purpose and assisted him in overtaking Griz’zt’s domain. In the great recesses of Lolth’s domain, Clopin became known across the hells as the Dancing Devil using his tongue and wit and superior bloodlust to bend many in the hells to his whim. The Elf became known as the Trellyr of the Four Hands, having allowed the she-devil to graft a set of arms to himself. The two worked together to gain hoards of demons under them. The Dwarven woman soon fell to death, but that did not stop her from assisting, having delved deep into necromancy she replaced her teacher in Undeath while in the realm of Dis and provided the Dancing Devil with the necromancer they recently killed. Amassing seven generals, one from each of the rulers of the seven levels of Hell which they did not control or destroy outright. With their political power growing the two, who began calling themselves the Brothers Bane, murdered their other human companion as a sacrifice, allowing them to become immortals. With their new rank they took demons and undead alike to storm the lands of Tiamat, and ripped her from her throne.

What occurred after this is as yet unknown to the Council.

After convening with the Elves, Drei leaves. While porting back to Cassica with Sue, he is immediately unaware that Thomas has gone. He enters the vault to store the book the gnomes gave, and find it missing. Remembering it on the table he, Doldin and Sue immediately portal back to Sanctia, to find the book no longer on the table. In a rage, Drei asks the council what happened to it, but no one seemed to know. Piecing it together, Doldin and Drei knew it made most sense that Thomas had to have taken it to the Chronomancers, on another of his insanity-induced plots. They immediately followed.
Upon entering the guild of the chronomancers, to which only Doldin and Thomas had been in the past, there will be a bit of an uproar. There are stirrings that they have finally managed to do everything they need, travel through time has been freely mastered. This, without the book that Thomas had just handed the chronomancers. In fact, that book seemed to be causing the leader of the Chronomancers quite some consternation. Reading the book, the leader is growing more and more frantic, flipping the pages, then he looks up and says that it’s identical to the one they have. the one that allowed them to do any of this; It’s just newer. It has been through less, and has not been translated. He Picks up the book they have, tattered and torn, and shows Thomas a stain on one of the pages that looks identical in both books. Baffled by how new this book looks compared to the one that was given to them to study from, the Chronomancers take it to study and compare. Doldin and Drei, followed by Sue, enter here, poised to fight Thomas if they need to but their entrance is timed very badly. Another portal opens moments after theirs and a tall, grey-skinned, cocky looking elf, with four arms, and two elven composite bows strapped across his back, walks out. He is clad in light armor and a heavy fur cape falls down his back. his blood-red hair a harsh contrast to the rest of him.

The elf steps forward and attacks the Chronomancers’ leader, driving an arrow deep into his heart. The man’s four arms moving fluidly to deflect attacks, he catches Doldin’s attack bare-handed and throws the great dwarf aside, effortlessly. His movements are almost unable to be seen by the naked eye. He advances and takes the book, Wind of Westeria. He turns and tells the. “I am Trellyr of the four Hands, Ruler of the First Hell, Avernus. I am the Right Hand of the Brothers Bane; If you want this book back, find me in the past.” Then he is gone, as fast as he came.

Heavily shaken, Doldin, sue and Drei know what, who, they just witnessed. So overcome by this man’s power were they that they could only stand there, processing what had just happened.

A scream echoes out through the guild as a young woman, roughly 25, comes to the fore, holding the body of the dead Chronomancer Leader in her arms. Loki Toathray pushes his way to the front in the crowd having seen everything and been powerless to stop it. He bids the party to go with him to the land of the Goliaths. Now. he knows their journey, and that an Archstone is located there, and he knows something else. he openly tells Drei, Doldin, Sue and Thomas that their recent findings at the chronomancy guild have taught them about about what is called a Nexus Point. These are places where great events occur due to time travel being misused, which leaves an unstable rift in the area for all time. The party will need to go to the Goliath’s lost city and find the nexus point there. Loki tells them that they can use it to do a time-jump back to the era in which the Goliaths were destroyed, and hopefully find a way to close that nexus point, making it impossible for their enemies to use, if they are indeed using Time Magic to the extent that the Chronomancers believe. Loki asks them, despite his own convictions, to temporarily rejoin the quest, as he sees it as his duty to return his people to the world.

Before the party can answer, the woman who had fallen beside the body of the Chronomancer Leader stands up, taking the brooch off of her master’s chest and pinning it to her own. “I am now the captain of this guild, having been his Second. If you plan to go to the past, I will be the one who takes you. It was his wish that the Chronomancers find and seal the nexus Points. We only know where the one is, but I will join you if you will have me.”

The Necromancer

After the defeat of Kovu, and the elven cohort of Dahlianna left the party, leaving only Dahliana’s books with the remaining members. The remaining party members, suceed in finding all 5 canopic jars and destroying them, assuring an end of the Lich. Dreirael, Doldin and his cousin Morel Orel, and Thomas exit the cavern with plans to resurrect the Druid, Alonna. However, when attempting to open their tomes and transport to the Library, they find the tomes glow gold and do not open. They exit the cavern and find that surrounding the cavern are four beetles, Khepri and the three Brothers. Khepri himself, not an avatar, stands atop of the cavern, and the three stand on each side of it. They make no motions, but are emitting a humming sound. Khepri will speak to the party and tell them that the death of the land has been brought to a halt, and thanks them for ending Kovu and saving his brother.

After speaking to Khepri for a short time, the Beetle God emits an aura that cleanses the desert of it’s curse, and they watch the stand slowly fall away. They attempt to leave again, but Khepri gives them a cryptic message. "Now, we must wait. I will need your help to save my followers, and the Sun Father sends help. The group knows that the next archstone is is hidden in the wandering world of Wisteria, lost in the sky where only Khepri himself can guide them. The party must activate the Dark Archstone.
Without real explanation, Khepri makes them wait without explanation for 3 days. It is boring but Khepri keeps preventing them from leaving during that time. At the end of the wait two things will happen simultaneously. The figure of a woman dressed in cleric’s clothing, torn and darkened by the heat and sand will appear in the distance, walking toward the party and the desert will have fully rescinded 20 feet over the time, to plant life that has been dried and preserved, the swampland is now back to it’s full and former glory.
At this point, Khepri says that the waiting is done, help has arrived, and that he must guide them to the place where his people are trapped.

The party watches as the woman in priestly clothing walks as close tot hem as she can before falling unconscious, body torn by heat and sand. Dreirael revives her, and as she opens her eyes to see his partly demonic, partly draconic human form, she is, at first taken aback and ready to strike out, but she realizes her situation and what this creature must have just done. She tells the party of a message from her God, Pelor, telling her to find the adventurers in the Desert with the Beetles and follow them to save the world from it’s plight. Doldin and Morel Orel make a snide comment, as the dwarves often do, about a Sun God’s chosen being unable to withstand a little sun, however all are happy to have what they assume is a healer added to their ranks.

Khepri tells the party that they will leave soon. That they must be quick to prepare if they plan to do so; His followers have waited too long for a savior. The party is allowed to teleport now and do what they need to do, but they have been bidden by Khepri to return before nightfall that day. Doldin is the only one to leave, taking Alonna’s belongings to the Elven Citadel in Dysidun and using her belongings as a focus to resurrect the Druid fighter. After they do what they need to do, the party rejoins khepri wi bids them to take to his back, while the Three Brothers return to wander the now-restored swampland.
Khepri flies straight toward the sun, moving much faster than he had previously been shown to be able to. Soon the clouds break and the sky begins to turn dark with the coming of dusk, and ahead of them just as the sun hits the horizon, the city seems to appear out of nowhere, the illusion hiding it’s massive form falling away as if in waves of light. Khepri explains that only at the proper time and from the proper direction does the city reveal itself, and only those who know how to look for it can find it. The city is comprised of three massive mountains held aloft by rings of arcane magic. Connecting the mountains is a broad city square, and from the party’s vantage point they can see three gigantic golden beetles, much smaller than the Three Brothers, but much more beautiful, staring at what appears to be a small sun in the sky. A small coliseum is on one of the three islands, and a lush lake on the second. The third, smaller, holds what could have once been farmland. As the water from the lake falls over the edge of the city, it seems to vanish into mist in a decidedly unnatural way.

Awaiting them in the sky city of Wisteria is a dilapidated ruin. The remains of the once flourishing people litter the world, decayed and lost to time. The bodies seem to have died in their spot, sitting to eat, wandering the streets. Their bodies seem to have died peacefully with little to no resistance. No building here was made for anything larger than a gnome, the tallest building standing at a mere 15 ft tall, though intricately carved of stone. This was seemingly the town hall.

Wildlife thrives here. Insects and fish, birds and a few smaller types of mammals and reptiles. Much of the city is overgrown with vines and brush, and the area smells as fresh as the forests the party has traveled through so far.

All weapons and armor found are of a small size.

This city has deep magical roots, there is almost nothing mundane here. Items like Everlasting Rations, Everfull Mugs, Field Provisions Boxes. They even chance upon the fabled Cornucopia of the Needful, which Alonna spirits away into her belongings.
Thomas the gnome, while wandering, find a magic ring that grants Flight and then also stumbles on a map on a scroll which says “Nexus” at the top.

Doldin while wandering picks up a rod with the highly detailed heads of each of the different heads of the five chromatic dragons of old, and immediately stows it away, knowing of the legends of such a thing being held by the followers of Tiamat;
A sole statue and the three golden beetles are all that remain. The beetles, while showing all signs of life are unmoving, their massive gilded forms stare at the sky toward the center of the city, over which hovers the “Sun.” The archstone is located in the middle of the Square, where what is unmistakably the rune carved into the amulet of the gnome, Sue, who died many months prior, is beautifully carved into the ground. The statue in front of the archstone, standing on the rune, looks ominously out of place. A human form with deep carved grooves in his face, wielding a great scythe. A cloak, splayed out by what could be wind reveals intricate armor on which are carved skulls and bones from what seem to be various races and creatures. His eyes pierce all he stares at with an uncaring gaze, and the sense of evil ominously perforates the world around it, despite being no more than cold, unmoving stone. The party, sensing a great battle ahead, holds off on doing anything with the archstone, and instead focus on doing what they can to prepare themselves. Around the city are ancient bodies of long-dead gnomes, laying as if they had fallen asleep where they stood and never woken up. Spells are cast, and the new woman, Sue and Morel Orel, knowing a good deal about what they face ready the party with Deathwards and protections and the party considers what will happen next. In preparation, Doldin fells the statue hoping it will have some effect on the battle ahead, and then they bid Drei to activate the archstone.

When the archstone is activated the “Sun” turns black, transporting the party into what is unmistakably the Plane of Shadow, which they had seen overtake portions of the land earlier in their quest. they are surrounded by the spirits of long-dead gnomes, and the Necromancer stands in front of them, entirely at the ready and unsurprised at their presence, His face is an ashen grey, contrasted harshly by the bright red streams of blood running from what look like fresh cuts gouged into his skin, bone deep. His words, as icy as his stone form looked, break the silence of the shadow plane “A thousand years and finally, the Dancing Devil’s enemies come… Arm yourselves well, for you will be my slaves for the rest of time.”

This battle takes place on the plane of Shadow, many Spectre Gnomes fight, controlled by the Necromancer, and the necromancer tries to remain out of range while summoning undead creatures. he continues to cast evil rich Inflict spells, and in mere seconds the party is reduced by nearly half, Alonna, her sister, and the tiger Stitches all quickly fall to the Necromancer’s death spells. The battle truly begins when he vanishes and casts from the realm of invisibility. Thomas succeeds in pinpointing the Necromancer, signals to the party and allows for Morel Orel to castcastes an antimagic field with which he chases down the invisible foe, forcing him out of his hiding, and allowing the party to continue attacking. Soon they have him on the ropes, the Necromancer’s death effects aren’t working on Dreirael, Doldin or Sue, and Thomas has become a construct. With little left to do but run and try to keep out of the antimagic field to cast at the party, the necromancer is soon cornered and taken down in glorious fashion.

Before death, on his knees, the Necromancer laughs, “I have failed, master.” Then without prompting he divulges the Dancing Devil’s plan from 1000 years prior to the party. The Dancing Devil infiltrated the levels of Hell and caused chaos, eventually usurping the Third Level which was controlled by Tiamat and claiming her throne for his own. He wished to expand the area of the Dragon goddess into the Living world. The Necromancer was charged only with amassing an undead army, and when he had done so, was confined in Stone to await the day the Dancing Devil’s enemies came. Due to this the Necromancer knows not how The Dancing Devil will enact the plan, but laughingly assures the party that their presence means that the plan is well under-way, and by this point unstoppable. The necromancer dies, face-first on the ground leaving the group, battle weary at having again lost one of the most saintly among them, Alonna, and her kin. Sue sends a message to the afterlife to see what Alonna wishes, and her spirit is heavy with the battle at hand. She wishes to rest peacefully, and refuses to return to the living world at this time.

trapped in the plane of shadow, the party tries to find out how to return to the material plane, the books again are proving useless, as this particular realm seems to have a dimensional lock on it. Thomas activates his Shadow Diadem to see what hapens and is immediately in the Material plane again, on Westeria, but surrounded by the spirits of many, many gnomes. He immediately asks how to get his people out of the realm. One gnome spirit states “All is tied to the belt.” Thomas returns to the party and tells them it’s the belt, saying they all need to hold onto it. They find the belt worn by the necromancer and hold it aloft, only to see that nothing happens. However, they soon realize that like the past, this must be a dark focus. As dreirael is attempting to think about what to do with it, Doldin’s axe comes down in one fell motions, cleaving the belt’s gem in half. The gem lets out a shockwave of dark energy, they peels away the shadow plane and has all of the party left staring at the gnome spirits in Westeria.

After returning to the Material Plane, the spirits of all of the gnomes that had died will be waiting for the return of the party. The “Sun” will be returned to it’s natural golden color and the golden beetles are now looking in the direction of the party and the Archstone. One gnome, who looks an odd mix of regal and scholarly, will come forward and in eloquent speech thank the party for the salvation of his city’s souls. He says they will leave this world, now, and return to their creator. He then depresses a stone in the center of the square, on the opposite side of the enormous intricate rune where the necromancer’s statue once stood. A pedestal will arise with a book on top of it. “This book is what that emissary of Death came to find with his master, centuries ago; Take it, and I hope it will aid you in the battle against that vicious man.” This book is written in a Gnome-dialect arcane script, and Thomas can see that it is called the Winds of Wisteria, and holds essential clues to the fulfillment of Chronomancy, the as-yet-undiscovered school of magic which the party has been attempting to help the Chronomancers create. Thomas’ eye stays on the book as Dreirael slides it into his bag. The party collects what they can from the body of the necromancer before preparing Allona’s and her kin’s bodies for transport to the druids, knowing not what else to do with them.

The party has gone through many trials and trepidations up to this point.

Wandering through the Druid’s forest, and into the Dwarven Stronghold left the party shaken and distraught. Each dealt with the pain and chaos in their own way, but none was unaffected.

The druids, having lost a huge portion of their clan, have been left to rebuild their stronghold and ward off the evil. Allana found the strength to carry on and work not only towards the study of her own healing powers, but found her strength as a warrior. Her remaining clan, recognizing her as such called back her animal companion and set her out with a new one, that marked the change in her powers, a Tiger marked with the green Dye of her clan, clad in armor. Suitable to her own strength, a companion and warrior in it’s own right.

The dwarves, whose king fell at the hands of their own brother, branded Doldin not just a Kinslayer, but now also a Kingslayer. Even upon bringing the king back from the realm of the dead, they shunned him. However the king offered, at Doldin’s cousin Helgar’s request, that were they to destroy this dark presence that corrupted the Dwarven people so, they would honor him once again into their halls. Now, Doldin sets forth not just to meet glory in death, but to consume the darkness, and overcome his own shortcomings as a crafter. Whatever comes, he is prepared to take it down. Tyto’s death showed him many blaring shortcomings in his own power, not just in his craftsmanship, but his fighting ability; How can he battle those that he cannot reach? However, in his journey, the Ancestral Axe which was taken from the Statue of Moradin in the dilapidated ancient runes under his city made it’s way to him, and he sees this as a sign, not only that his redemption is possible, but that a connection to his God may be made as well. Yet, it gives him hope and understanding as well. This axe, so great in it’s appearance and strength, shows him that there are lost arts of his craft that he can work towards, in the hope of reviving them.

Doppler, corrupted by the evil that was possessing Tyto Tenebricosa, slowly turned further and further against the party, secretly aligning himself with the Avoral. This change in his heart made him quickly succumb to darkness, stealing more and more from the party and impeding them; His first death at the hands of an ally more than drove his young mind over the edge, and despite resurrection it was found that his doom was to be at the hands of Doldin Brightsmith, who may not have seen the darkness growing in the young gnome’s heart, but saw how it was affecting their quest. His final moments were at the betrayal of the party and his oath toward Doldin to no longer steal from those within the team.

Draeriael, as always, continued the quest after the Dwarven stronghold, to build his hoard as his Goddess commanded. However this was not without it’s own trials, as his amassed hoard begins to include many items which become harder and harder to carry, not he least of which is the dwarven Ancestral Axe which he eventually decided was best to give over to Doldin and his cousin, who trailed with him back from the mountain and into the Druid City, to follow along with Doldin as his companion, at the Dwarven King’s request. The axe showed it’s true colors in the library, when it diverted Draerial’s first and only attack with the weapon right into his own leg, severing it cleanly. A weapon who did not want to be owned by him was more danger than it was worth, and for a price he parted with it. Maybe into the hands of whom it truly belonged. For now, he was finding a deeper and deeper fascination with keeping the heads of those greatest foes that he had slain, and the newest was a massive skull of an undead terror, too large to truly carry, but a fine addition to his hoard. Now, in the library after the death of Tyto, he is visited by the spirit of his Goddess for the first time since she resurrected him, and she tells him how she sees him grow. She orders him to venture to her temple in the desert, after fighting a creature whose very nature blasphemes against what she teaches, draconic by blood, but an abomination of unknown origins who follows the evil dragoness, Tiamat.

The elven Wizardess, Dahlianna, has done what her people commanded, and followed this party as a watcher until now, recording what is happening with these dark forces as the party adventures, but she can see no end to it as yet. Even with Tyto’s death, she has watched the struggles of the group themselves. The betrayals and infighting, she can only lump together as being the influence of the evil in the world. Because she can see the hearts of them, as they travel together, and while each struggles with their past it is not so dark set of pasts as to truly show such brutality; The time and the darkness, as her people have told, are the blame. The darkness must be stopped, and she has much to impart to the council about what has transpired, when she returns.

Before meeting the Council, the party met with a newcomer whose presence, while short, changed them a little and granted much knowledge of the true scope of the impeding evil. For he was a Goliath, a race now presumed extinct for over a thousand years. The last great celebration they held was inturrupted by a ragnarok of sorts, and none had been seen since. The destruction of his civilization was shown to the group, him included, and he was to follow and fight against the foul fowl that cast his people into flames. However, he died at the hands of a terrible beast within the library, doomed never to meet Tyto in battle. The loss of Loki Passive-Fist Toathray was felt deeply within the party; A man who had sworn off violence, and arm, whose very presence invoked a feeling of light and goodness in those around him. The party has yet to lay him to rest, but plans for a befitting ceremony. As short as the time spent with him was, the impact was massive.

Within the library, two more newcomers found their way to the party, as if by a godsend. A lovely rogue by the name of Saphira, who entered the portal unseen, invisible, and watched. Sent to report on the party by her leader in the Montevoix faction of the Thieves’ Guild as a spy, she watched the horrors they fought against and eventually was forced to reveal herself after speaking, lest the party attack her. She lent her powers to the fight, from then on, and found that she would likely find herself traveling with this group for much longer. Now, as what may have been the hardest battle for survival she has ever taken part of, she reflects on her orders and what she has seen. Will she stay with the party, or will she return to the Rogues? Would she be able to forgive herself if she, lawless though she may be, let the darkness consume the world? Would the Guild prevent her from going, or would they understand? What was the purpose of her master sending her here? Into this Armageddon?

The other was a warped-minded gnome, much older than Doppler, bearing slight resemblance (as if they may have been originally from the same area of the world), who wandered in from the darkness, chattering and jittering to himself, bent on the death of Tyto due to nothing more than a dream that told him that the evil was there. He proved to be an incredibly needed party, being the only one who could keep up with Tyto’s height and speed of flight, repeatedly bringing him back to the ground. While the party may not know whether this man can be trusted there is no denying the boon that he had been in this fight. And even in the library, this crazed man was struck with the dark dreams, whispering to him what more needs to be done.

The Story Begins
Basic information regarding this campaign

The story is yet to start. Nothing has happened. All players should be preparing their characters.

Here are the rules:
Wizards of the Coast content only, preferably core (PHB and PHB2) classes.
No races that have a level adjustment and, again, preferably core races (PHB and DMG).

This campaign is for non-evil characters and preferably non-chaotic. However any alignment of non-evil character will be allowed.

Roles that have been:
1) Stealth – Mike (Ranged Rogue)
2) Tank – Greg (Dwarven Barbarian)
3) Caster – Adam (Dragonblood)
4) Healer – Lauren (Human Druid; Spontaneous Casting as healer instead of Summoner)

Optional Roles:
Any others, if there are enough players.

All players must read up on Montevoix, as it is their hometown, or at the very least their current/logstanding place of residence.
